Your kids will be back in school before you know it, so that means that your schedule will probably get a lot more hectic pretty quickly.

Not only will they have homework they’ll need help with, but there will be extracurricular activities of all sorts, as well as miscellaneous trips here and there that always seem to pop up at inconvenient times.

Save yourself some time and headache by scheduling your dental checkup now, before school starts back. Now is a great time to get in and out quickly while your schedule is more flexible. Once school starts back, your time may be much more limited.

In case you’re a new patient of Highland Advanced Dental Care, below we give you some information about what you can expect when you visit us for the first time. If you have any questions about us or about your dental care, just give us a call at 248-329-3552. One of our friendly team members will be glad to help.

Enjoy a Healthy Smile With Our Exceptional Care

As a new patient, we encourage you to take advantage of our $49 New Patient Special. It includes:

  • A comprehensive dental exam to check for hidden oral problems
  • Set of digital X-rays for a detailed look at your teeth, nerves, and bone structure
  • Complete teeth cleaning to rid your mouth of bacteria, plaque, and tartar
  • A personalized plan for your complete dental care

When you come in, you’ll be treated to one of Michigan’s most thorough dental exams. We’ll visually check for obvious cavities and signs of gum disease, but we’ll also use electronic cavity detectors that can catch tiny amounts of tooth decay invisible to the naked eye.

Included in your exam will be a set of X-rays using our digital X-ray equipment. This advanced technology exposes you to only a fraction of the radiation that standard X-rays do, giving you more peace of mind about your health and well-being. Next, we’ll use the VELscope system to search for any signs of oral cancer. Early detection and treatment of this disease can help prevent bigger, more extensive problems.

Our hygienist will then clean and polish each of your teeth. They will pay special attention to those hard-to-reach areas you might miss at home when brushing and flossing. Afterward, your teeth will be clean, they’ll feel smooth, and they’ll sparkle!

We Offer a Variety of Treatments to Help You Maintain a Beautiful Smile

If we see any problems during your checkup, Dr. LoCascio and our team will give you an individualized treatment plan so that you can get your smile back into shape. One treatment we often recommend is dental sealants. A very thin layer of plastic applied to the chewing surfaces of certain teeth will form a protective barrier between your tooth enamel and decay-causing bacteria.

You could also need fluoride treatment or varnish. Fluoride remineralizes and strengthens tooth enamel, helping make your teeth more resistant to cavities. Fluoride has even been shown to reverse tooth decay when it’s still in the early stages.

If we see signs of gum disease, we can “deep clean” your teeth using scaling and root planing. With this procedure, we’ll clean plaque and tartar from around and below the gumline, then smooth out your teeth roots to help prevent bacteria from collecting there in the future. If you’re prone to developing gum disease, this procedure may need to be repeated every few months.

Periodically, we find evidence of teeth grinding (also known as bruxism) during routine checkups. Many of our patients grind their teeth in their sleep and don’t even know it. However, a professionally made mouthguard can prevent your teeth from touching while you sleep, helping prevent dental damage that could require restorative dentistry to repair. Our custom-fit mouthguards fit better, protect better, and last longer than store-bought mouthguards.
